Upholstery

Image
The seating and luton bed in Daisy are just plywood boards with foam and tired covering.  Now I have a sewing machine, how hard can it be to re-upholster? I decided the two most used base seats needed fresh foam, but at £25 per seat I was not keen to replace all 7.

Ireland for two - May 2019

Trip to Ireland - May 2019 After my daughter's Higher Exams we took some time to travel to Ireland.  This was the first time we had used Daisy with one person sleeping in the overhead space and the other on the bed made up from the table area.  It worked very well - not over-crowded and we slept fine. Day 1 - Home to Maybole I am not sure of there is much of a village here - it is a dot on the map about 7km east of Turnberry on Scotland's east coast.  But where is a lovely and secluded campsite called the Walled Garden.  Very peaceful, with walks along the wooded riverbank and, usefully for us, not too far from the ferry port. Day 2 - Maybole to Belfast The ferry from Cairnryan departs at 11am.  So we left the campsite at 9am and expected to be far too early. But the road to the coast was closed and we had to take a back road detour.  But we made it in time to join the ferry with a lot of motorbikes.  On the ferry we decided to stay at ...

Europe - Jan-Feb 2019

Image
My European Adventure One of my reasons for buying Daisy was a fear that I would be made redundant.  I wanted to be able to travel quickly, and not be faced with difficult decisions to spend money when I was not earning.  And I did not want to undertake a trip in an unproven vehicle. I was fortunate that my redundancy started with gardening leave, so there was no point in looking for jobs which I could not take until I actually became redundant.  In effect I had 3 months on full pay and no work.  Yippee.  But the downside was that camping in Europe will be cold and few sites are open.  However, the Alan Rogers web site has a list of all year camp sites - it is not 100% accurate but it is very useful.  Here is my route.  Most stops are camp sites but the purple ones are hotels.  Usually that's because there was no convenient camp site open at the time. Start Point - Newcastle to Amsterdam Ferry - 3 Jan 2019 This ferry is...

Bute 29 Sept 2018

Durness Aug 2018

The Road to Durness  - August 2018 This is our first week in Daisy.  We kept to our ground rules of road trips - don't plan to travel much more than 2 hours a day and stay in nice places. Friday 10 August - Invernahavon, between Damwhinnie and Aviemore.  It took a long time to drive this far, partly because of traffic approaching the Queensferry bridge on Friday after work.  It's a lovely rural site, with a little river and a few midges.  Saturday 11 August - a nice day out in Inverness, then on to Fortrose on the Black Isle.  The campsite is really near the town and there were a few good pubs. Sunday 12 August - Drove the the Crask Inn.  Met the Episcoplian Bishop over dinner.  Willow camped in the garden - a bit wet.  A few cyclists doing Lands End to John O'Groats. Monday 13 August - Followed the remote road up to Durness. Pretty campsite with a sandy beach and pub. Tuesday 14th - The slow road to Ullapool....
